After having worked with Lewin at JWT for a couple of years, I knew he had to be part of the team that we needed to start up a new agency. In 1983 Berry Bush was born and 21 years later when Lewin retired, the agency (which aligned with BBDO internationally) had developed into the 4th largest agency group in SA. Lewin’s creative talent, his work ethic and his never-say-die attitude was one of the critical and key reasons for the agency’s ultimate success. In an industry notorious for its hunger for employing the young, hip and cool, Lewin’s greying hair and receding hairline are a testament to his vast advertising experience. Although he performs a non-executive role, Lewin is the ideal guy to have behind the scenes. The agency will always be able to call on his calm demeanour and in particular, his expertise within the TV arena - he fancies himself as a director you know! Lewin is one of those rare breeds of creative that understands strategy, the role of strategy and how it translates into the final creative product. As one of my closest and loyal friends (and the fittest for his age!) I can’t think of anyone better to nurture, mentor and guide the ninety9cents creative team into the future.
